On March 15, 2022, Junior-Senior High Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill held an English Day 2022 event which is an annual event at Sekolah Harapan Bangsa. This year's English Day event brought up the theme “English's Best of All Times” where this event provided a space for students to analyze and appreciate the best English literary works of all time. This event was held virtually and was attended by all Junior-Senior High Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill students, along with teachers and staff. Several students from SHB Cambridge also took part in this event.
The English Day 2022 event was hosted by Zefanya and Briant, grade 11 students and guided by Ms. Shinta as the PIC. The event was opened with a prayer by Ms. Ingrid and opening remarks from Ms. Melany Kusumawati. Then the first activity of the English Day 2022 event began, which was watching videos about English Language Fun Facts and Quizizz Competition. Quizizz Competition was participated by all students and the competition was very tight.
After that, it was continued with the main event of English Day 2022, namely presentations and performances from all classes. Each class got a category of literary works: books, movies, songs, and comics. Then they give presentations and performances about one of those categories assigned for them. The presentations and performances presented by the students were very interesting and creative. Like the 11th grade, as the winner of English Day 2022 for the Senior High School category, performed the song “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen. The winner of the Junior High School category was from grade 8A with a song “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong. In addition, there were a comic trailer for “Demon's Slayer” from grade 10 and a scene re-enactment from the movie “The Princess Diaries” by class 8B.
After all presentations and performances from all classes, the event continued with a voting session to determine the most favorite presentation and performance. Grade 11, again, got the most votes. Then the event closed with the announcement of the winners and closing prayer by Ms. Yeni Tusmiati. Overall, the English Day 2022 event went well and was lively even though it was held virtually.
