SHB celebrates Teachers Day on Wednesday 25th, November 2020, to remind teachers to shape future generations, from chalk generation to board marker until now online teaching. The teachers are not stopping to find solutions during this pandemic, still holding on to the principle that students have the full right and independent learning to better prepare in facing the future. Moreover, these days, teachers become stronger, challenging many demanding conditions to guide them as role models.
Ms. Melany K. Gigir, S. Pd., the Senior High School Principal, stated at the opening, “The teachers and the students have the freedom to study during this pandemic. Even though we are still staying at home and doing home learning, we have to make sure that the teachers have the proper methodology to teach and being proper guidance for future generations”. Based on this statement, we can say this is an encouragement for all school elements responsible for the young generation to face future challenges.
The students’ council from junior and senior high were having collaboration with the teachers. To commemorate teachers’ day, we SHB hold online activities that show that all education activists such as teachers and students can still work together to create an online school environment conducive to learning. The activities were students making greeting cards, testimony video, playing games online, and the student council had initiative nominating teachers based on punctuality, pleasant personality, and homework and assignments.
This activity lasts for more than 2 hours. From 8 am to 10 am. The excitement increased when the teacher also took quizzes given by the student council. The teacher’s knowledge was also being tested here—furthermore, not only teachers who participated in this activity but also the students. The engagement of both parties was intense and created an even closer relationship.
Of course, everybody was hoping the pandemic of covid – 19 will end soon. Everything will be going back to normal and spending time together at school by meeting face to face directly without a screen barrier holding us back to express ourselves. Let’s hope our next national teachers’ day celebration will be at school.
