Every year the Harapan Bangsa High School Student Council has a tradition of holding significant activities with the primary purpose is to share with others who are in need. The event is always packed with fun for all students and teaches them human values so that it is a form of entertainment with a sense of morale. Garage Sale is one of the events held at the end of 2020. This event aims to raise funds and donate them to the Luhur Graha Murni Orphanage, a particular orphanage for children with disabilities. The Student Council was very motivated to improve facilities’ convenience, make ends meet, and other items needed in difficult times like today with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has been globalizing since the beginning of 2020.
Seven days before the event started, OSIS SMA set up an online thrift store, a low-cost online shop selling clothes and wearables. Each student is asked to donate their used goods. These items will be sold through the thrift store’s social media account and quite impressive because many people are interested in them. On December 7, 2020, the main Garage Sale event was held online. It was attended by students, teachers, and some student guardians who enthusiastically followed the program after the event presented by the Student Council. It was interspersed by impressive performances from selected students, Matthew Sebastian, Adrian Kashif, and Nikko Gunawan, who performed musical instruments online.
And thankfully, at the end of the event, SHB collected 13 million rupiahs for the children at the Graha Murni Luhur Orphanage. Even though this Garage Sale event was held virtually, it left a good impression and memories for all students, giving a message to all students that we have to help each other in our lives as human beings. This event is dedicated to those who have made an outstanding contribution to those in dire need.
