After a long semester filled with studies and exams, it was finally the event that I had been looking forward to, Charity Day-a special opportunity for students to raise awareness and help animals in need.
The day started with several activities: mini games, short movies and a quick seminar by “Jakarta Animal Aid Network”. The mini games are ‘Editors’, ‘Unsaid’, ‘Who said it?’, and ‘Riddles’. Above all games, the one I found most engaging was ‘Unsaid’, as it put you under time pressure and forced you to think creatively. It’s simply a word guessing game, in which one player had to describe a word without mentioning nouns or adjectives that were listed in the card given and the other housemates had to guess the word specified.
Games were followed by short movies. Two movies were shown and they talked about animal cruelty and change in aquatic ecosystem affected by water pollution. The movies sincerely broke my heart on how small action would have such a huge impact on the ecosystem.
Before the event ended, Jakarta Animal Aid Network [JAAN] shared about their mission and vision with SHB Cambridge. They encouraged us to show kindness to animals and reminded us to take good care of our environment. SHB Cambridge is also collecting donations to help JAAN achieving their goals.
To conclude, the purpose of this event was to make us realize how some animals were being treated badly by people and that it’s our part to stop it and rescue them.
