Batik

Indonesia is filled with different traditions, each with their own uniqueness. One popular tradition is the production of batik. Batik has been produced for a long time in different locations, but it all originates on the island of Java. In parts of Java, especially in the center and the east, you will be able to learn and see the production of batik.

Batik can be produced in two ways. One uses a special tool known as ‘canting’. By using this tool, the producer can draw their own batik pattern, all according to their will. The second way will produce the so called ‘batik cetak’. It uses a stamp with a pattern in it to produce the batik.

The batik tradition is an important part of both local and national culture. This tradition has spread internationally. This has lead to batik being a good way to improve economy not only for the country but also local residents.
