In order to reach the ultimate goals of education through developing knowledge and character, we offered a learning experience within the Adiwiyata Program.
These days, global warming and climate change are the next challenges facing the world after the Coronavirus Pandemic is under control. The Adiwiyata program intends to create a better condition for students and the environment through exploring and learning to build a focused school community.
Under the Adiwiyata program, students and a school community take greater responsibility to preserve and care for the natural environment. The recent rapid community uptake of the internet and social media as a primary mechanism to daily life and future generations mat stand in contrast to care for our natural environment.
As SHB Modernhill has been chosen as an Adiwiyata school reference, SHB Modernhill students will be able to promote creatively campaigns and actions around daily life via website and social media mechanisms.
The objective is to offer soft skills and social awareness using these outreach technologies to offer simple and fundamental good practice for the natural environment. All activities will apply four basic competences (4C) in the 21th century i.e how students are to communicate, to collaborate, to be creative and to nurture their own critical thinking.
The event was held on Tuesday, 7 December 2021 with participants of around 178 students. Each class created a Google site template. Students modified it to make it nice and easy to save the contents to from campaigns, to give valid information, and to post videos and digital products to. They could also add information related to climate change and global warming issues on their site. Each class also submitted animals and plant classifications using an app, Inaturalist, on their handphones while exploring their own home environments. Each class also created a video about the most efficient practice to reduce global warming.
The event went smoothly and ran on schedule as well. More detailed activities are explained further on this site https://bit.ly/shbadiwiyata. All the participants and winners were given certificates. Finally, we hope the activity has allowed students a stronger awareness of climate change and global warming issues that can be affected in their daily lives.
