IMLEK NEW YEAR Celebration

Chinese New Year 2022 ,or Chinese New Year 2573, was celebrated by all people on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. This year is the year of the Tiger. Sekolah Harapan Bangsa  held a celebration for the Chinese New Year on Friday, February 4, 2022.  This celebration is held at Sekolah Harapan Bangsa on a yearly basis. Before the pandemic, lively celebrations were held in the school hall  by displaying a lively lion dance and the kids really loved it. However, since the pandemic hit this country, Chinese New Year celebrations at SHB have been carried out online, or virtually . Nevertheless, the children were very enthusiastic in welcoming and enlivening this activity. The children sent videos of their work and calligraphy creations to be displayed in our Chinese New Year celebrations.

In this celebration, both teachers and students wore special red clothes and some children wore traditional Chinese clothes called Cheongsam. They looked very beautiful and handsome. In this activity there were many interesting performances from the students under the guidance of the Laoshi. Salute to Laoshi and the students’ persistence in preparing for their performance. Some of them write Chinese/Mandarin or Hanzi calligraphy. There were also those who sang Mandarin songs, drew pictures, and some told stories using Chinese or Mandarin.

In accordance with current conditions, the pandemic period is not an obstacle to work. Instead we are faced with an atmosphere of staying strong at work, and also staying happy. In this Chinese New Year celebration, the students were introduced to some of the traditions of the Chinese New Year. Among them are the traditions of eating together, family gatherings and playing together, sharing red packets, visiting each other and wishing each other a happy new year, also watching a lion dance performance.

In addition to the Chinese New Year tradition, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa  students were also introduced to Chinese New Year specialties, including oranges, dumplings, rice cakes, rice  treasures, noodles, and basket cakes. Each food has a symbol that contains prosperity, success, and prosperity.
