A few days ago, we celebrated Eid al-Fitr. This holiday is celebrated on the 1st day of Shawwal in the Hijri calendar by Muslims around the world. Before Eid al-Fitr, Muslims must carry out their obligations to fast during the month of Ramadan for 30 days. Fasting itself is one of the obligations that must be carried out by Muslims, namely, refraining from those ways that break the fast such as eating, drinking, lust and bad deeds from sunrise to sunset.
This Eid is interpreted as a day of victory for Moslems, therefore the month of Ramadan is one of the months that is always eagerly awaited and always celebrated by Muslims. Usually on the night before Eid al-Fitr, Muslims will chant takbir in mosques or prayer rooms. This is done to pray and thank God for the victory and greatness of Allah SWT for giving another opportunity to fast in this month of Ramadan. This takbir is carried out until night and will stop briefly before the Fajr call to prayer is echoed and will continue until later when you want to carry out the Eid prayer. Eid Fitr prayers are held in the morning where later Muslims will gather in the field or at the mosque to carry out Eid prayers together.
After that, we will do Halalbihalal. Halalbihalal is where we visit neighbors, relatives, or family to stay in touch. This Eid moment we usually use to gather together and apologize to each other or ask forgiveness from each other because this Eid is a holy day and we must have a pure heart without any grudges against others. Because this Eid is a day to gather with family, therefore many Muslims return to their hometowns to meet family and stay in touch. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the government prohibiting going home in previous years, many people could not go to their hometowns. But finally in this year’s Ramadan, the government allowed the return of the homecoming rule which made the streets crowded because people wanted to go home and meet their family after 2 years of not being allowed to go home.
The tradition during Eid is to eat Eid cakes such as pastries or foods that are usually made during Eid. For example, there are nastar cakes, sago cheese, snow white and others, and the most famous foods during Eid are ketupat and chicken opor. Therefore, the diamond becomes one of the symbols when Eid arrives. This food is usually prepared by several people in the house where later this food is to welcome people who come to stay in touch. This year’s Eid Al-Fitr is one of the more memorable Eid celebrations after 2 years of Eid during the pandemic. From apologizing to each other, it will create warmth and peace among those who celebrate Eid al-Fitr with each other and spread happiness on the holy day of Muslims. Minal Aidin Wal-Faizin!
