Storytelling is a way of conveying a story orally. Children’s stories that are generally conveyed can be in the form of fables (animal stories) or legends. Storytellers have the opportunity to use media such as dolls, books, or animations for storytelling.
Storytelling is also one of the media or ways that can be used to stimulate children. Through storytelling, critical thinking skills, prosocial attitudes, and expressive and receptive language skills can also be developed in children.
Storytelling can help parents and teachers understand children’s development in the following aspects:
1. Obtaining information because by telling stories parents have and can obtain information related to the development of the child, both cognitive, language, social emotional and other aspects of development.
2. Recognizing children’s emotions because storytelling helps parents in the process of understanding the child’s emotions and then making plans for efforts to help children so that later they can manage their emotions well.
3. Problem solving because it can map the problems in the child so that parents can identify, find solutions, and evaluate how the problems that exist in the child can be overcome according to the needs of the child’s development.
