The Mooncake Celebration, a Chinese holiday observed on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, originated more than 2,000 years ago as a festival honouring the gods after the harvest of the previous autumn. Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Cambridge celebrated this event on September 21st, 2022. The Cambridge lobby was crowded with excited and cheerful students.
We were divided into our respective house teams and invited all the primary 6 students to join us to play fun games at the SHB indoor gym. First, selected students were chosen to participate in the “Transferring Ping Pong” game. The students from each house team worked together to transfer a ping pong ball using a pipe. The title of the second game was “Human Caterpillar.” Teamwork and preparation were also required for this game. To reach the finish line, we had to sync our movements. We had a lot of fun playing together and competing with the Grade 6 primary students.
We all returned to the Cambridge building to have food and rest after the indoor activities. We then bid the Primary 6 kids farewell and thanked them for their time spent participating in the mooncake activities. The following activities were open to all Cambridge students only and this includes Chinese calligraphy, origami, lantern-making, and mini-pancake cooking by selected members of the student council.
Each house team had the opportunity to experience the various activities one by one. The winners of the softboard competition were announced at the end of the event. While some house teams were disappointed because of the result, others were joyful and proud. This will surely rank among the most exciting and memorable activities Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Cambridge has ever experienced. We are looking forward to our next event soon.
