In Chinese, the Mid-Autumn Festival, Zhongqiu Jie (中秋节) is also called the Moon Festival or the Mooncake Festival. It is China’s second most important festival after the Chinese New Year.
Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of the rice harvest and many fruits. Ceremonies are held to give thanks for the harvest and encourage the harvest-giving light to return again in the coming year.
It is also a reunion time for families, a little like Thanksgiving. Chinese people celebrate it by gathering for dinners, worshiping the moon, lighting paper lanterns, eating mooncakes, etc. This year Moon Cake’s Assembly was held on Wednesday, September 21st, 2022 in two buildings. Grade 1-2 gathered with preschool students in SHB 5 building, whereas grades 3-4 and 5-6 took turns to have an assembly at SHB 4 hall. The program was so various with some students’ performances and competitions.
It was begun with the assembly led by Lao Shi Wu and Lao Shi Soh Mei Mei presenting the story of Moon Cake. Last but not least, the students were given the opportunity to paint and decorate the mooncake made by modeling clay and acrylic paint. The students felt joyful with this year’s Moon Cake celebration. We can see it from the pictures attached. Cheers!
