Preparation for Book Days 2022 begins on October 18. Preschool students are challenged to submit photos with the theme “Book Face Challenge” where they look for books with attractive covers or that match their faces. Then take a photo with the cover covering part or all of the student’s face in an appropriate and attractive position. The students’ enthusiasm is very good, and they are eager to send photos to the link drive that has been provided. There are lots of very funny and interesting photos to look at.
Broadly speaking, Book Day activities consist of:
The first day of Book Days is October 26, 2022 (Indonesian Day).
Preschool and elementary school grades 1 and 2 students gather in the SHB 5 hall. In the hall, a red carpet has been installed, and a backdrop with a contrasting and interesting book picture background. Ms. Indah and the team have also decorated the stage with trees made of colored paper and added a fence so that the stage looks more attractive, like a fairy tale.
As the MC, Ms. Linda lead the children to sing with enthusiasm and joy. Ms. Linda also made a warm welcome for the students several times, adding to the liveliness of the event. Before the event continued, an opening prayer was performed by Ms. Ingrid. After that, the students received a warm welcome from the principal, Ms. Thedora, marking the official opening of Book Days.
The MC greeted the students and announced that today there was a special guest who would bring a fairy tale. The MC then introduced and invited Kak Budi to appear on stage. Kak Budi is a storyteller who enjoys the world of children. Kak Budi has been a storyteller since 2009. Kak Budi has the ability to entertain children with dolls and adjust the voice according to the character of the doll he uses. Kak Budi brought a story about “the kind penguin named Rocky.” The children were very happy to hear fairy tales from Kak Budi.
In the Book Days activity, one of the parents of a kindergarten student was invited to tell a story in class. Parents will bring fairy tales in Indonesian or, according to the day of activity, for the first day in Indonesian, the second in Chinese, and the third in English.
Students have the opportunity to visit a book bazaar supported by the Paperback & Millennia bookstore. The book bazaar is located in Hall SHB 5. Various types of books are displayed to attract students to buy and read the books. Every purchase of a student’s book will be accompanied by Homeroom.
Today the children carried out Indonesian language activities to foster love and train students’ abilities in Indonesian. The students composed poems through words and pictures guided by Ms. Wiwin.
The second day of Book Day is October 27, 2022 (Mandarin Day).
As part of the opening ceremony, several preschool students performed on stage, singing a song in Mandarin. Then Laoshi Mei Mei led the students to sing Chinese together happily.
On this day there was a special drama appearance from the preschool teachers entitled “The Tortoise and the Hare.” This drama is played by the principal, Ms. Thedora, Ms. Beautiful, Ms. Wiwin and two students.
On this day, there were also two parents who had been invited to tell stories in two classes using Mandarin. After that, the students did a Mandarin activity guided by Laoshi Mei Mei. Students will make “book cards.”
The third day of Book Day is October 28, 2022 (English Day)
Today is the last day of Book Days. Today the students are wearing fictional book character costumes. The students appeared in various unique and interesting costumes. Prescholl students, elementary school grades 1 and 2, gathered in SHB 5 hall. The activity began with an opening by MCs Ms. Neneng and Ms. Tuti, followed by an opening prayer by Mr. Wayan. The first modern dance performance from elementary students followed by the appearance of the costumes of the students on the stage accompanied by music. Then the MC chose some students with attractive costumes to be interviewed. The MC asked what the students liked about the costumes he was wearing. Then the student is asked to show the movement or slogan of the costume he is wearing.
And that’s all of the Book Day activities that ended on that day.
