Adiwiyata

An Adiwiyata school is a school that is clean, comfortable, and caring towards the environment. Adiwiyata means “a right and ideal place that can be obtained through all science, norms, and ethics and can be the basis for the creation of human welfare and towards the goals of sustainable development”. As we know, most students carry out teaching and learning activities for 7 to 8 hours per day, not to mention extracurricular activities and other student activities, practically spending more time at school. For this reason, a good school is a school that not only prioritizes the teaching and learning process but also pays attention to the health of the school environment.

Adiwiyata is one of the dreams of our school in general because it is important to develop a proper and comfortable learning environment. A comfortable environment can influence the quality of student achievement towards better development. Therefore, now several schools in Indonesia are developing and implementing the Adiwiyata program, other than for the reasons mentioned above, it's also because the earth's conditions that are getting increasingly worse, encouraging people globally to take action to save our earth, these actions can start in small areas such as schools and the surrounding environment.

So it is the right step to create an environment-based school program. A clean and healthy environment is certainly the dream of schools anytime and anywhere. The Adiwiyata program aims to make good conditions for schools to become places of learning and awareness for students, so it is appropriate to apply the 3R Concept in the Environment. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle. Below is a short explanation of the 3R's:

Recycle

Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. For example: using organic waste to make compost. 

Reuse

Reusing is the process of using an item again instead of throwing it away. For example: use plastic bags that you get when you shop more than once.

Reduce

Reducing is an activity to lessen the usage of certain things or activities that might damage the environment. For example: opting on bringing your own tumbler rather than buying bottled water.

By applying the 3R concept, of course, you can participate in helping to preserve and maintain the environment so that it does not get more damaged or polluted. It is this school with an environmental culture that needs our attention. The reason is simple: “Our earth is getting damaged”, the environment we live in no longer provides comfort and security. Who is destroying this earth? We can’t completely blame others and wait for someone to act. And who better start to improve the environment, if not ourselves?
