Tuesday, January 31 2023, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa’s Auditorium was filled with teachers, students and parents all wearing red.
Wow, what’s going on?
It turns out that it was the Chinese New Year celebration which took place in the SHB 3 building, to be precise, in the magnificent 3rd floor Auditorium.
After the event was opened with a prayer, Mrs. Indra T Honoris delivered a short speech containing a welcome and good wishes for this Year of the Rabbit and also did not forget to motivate all to be more enthusiastic about studying and going further.
After that, without waiting for a long time, the Barongsai performance was immediately staged and received a standing ovation. The entire audience of approximately 500 consisting of foundation members, students, teachers and parents enjoyed the increasingly captivating lion dance performances.
This time there were five SHB Barongsai performers (black, white, yellow, red, orange) of the SMP Harapan Bangsa students through extracurricular activities.
Another performance that was no less interesting was the Taekwondo. The Taekwondo extracurricular participants showed their prowess in kicking the boards until they broke in two. Wow!!
Next, students in grades 4 and 5 presented a fan dance very nicely, followed by modern dance of grades 1-3. Not to forget, class 5 also presented beautiful dance and song performances. They were all so agile moving on stage. Their energy was so cheerful, joyful, bright and optimistic like the hope in this new year.
The program then continued with ballet and music performances from Mr Cjerio’s mixed classes.
As the closing event, the favorite involved all spectators interacting with five funny lion dancers.
The students immediately scrambled to give angpau to the five lion dances that came to their seats.
The children were so happy and excited to see the lion dance, and they often tried to stroke it, talk to it, shake hands, and peek at who was in the lion costumes.
Wow…it was really fun! At the end of the event they were allowed to take a photo with the SHB mascot which is always performed at every Chinese New Year celebration along with a lion dance, and a long dragon snake dance.
Without realizing it, the event was over and the students received goodie bags containing dim sum, oranges, biscuits, buns, Ultra milk, McDonald’s burgers and mineral water.
It was an enjoyable and successful day, as happy as welcoming the new year of the year of the Rabbit. Wishing everyone good health and prosperity throughout the year.
Amen!!
