For this year’s Faith/Charity day, the SHB Cambridge Student Council initiated the Share Love Program. Students and teachers were encouraged to donate these three basic needs (rice, sugar and cooking oil) for distribution among our SHB OB and security staff. Due to the SHB Cambridge family’s tremendous kindness and care, the total amount of basic needs collected exceeded predictions. We decided to donate the necessities to the people of Cianjur in response to the devastating earthquake that had recently occurred there.
In the greater Cianjur area, due to a significant earthquake event on Monday, November 1st, approximately 384 smaller earthquakes followed. Many houses suffered severe damage or were even reduced to rubble. This forced many residents to become homeless. We partnered with Gemabudhi, a non-profit youth organisation that delivered the donations directly to small villages in Cianjur that needed access to basic sanitary kits and goods. Other aid organisations had mainly overlooked these villages, needing more help. Our contribution is undoubtedly something to be proud of – the SHB Cambridge family donated 20 sacks of rice and 24 litres of cooking oil! We hope these donations bring some optimism to the affected citizens of Cianjur and that this help motivates them to get back on their feet with added confidence.
The 13th of December, our 2022 Faith/Charity day celebration and the peak of the Share Love program, was filled with fun games and joyful singing performances brought to all by SHB Cambridge students and teachers. Additionally, there was an exceptional dangdut performance by Pak Sugi and Pak Slamet, undoubtedly the event’s highlight. In the end, Pak Pras and Bu Cucu were called to the stage to receive donations on behalf of all the OB. A picture was taken of them on stage, showcasing their heartfelt gratitude. Gifts for other OB and security staff were distributed later that same day after school hours.
Overall, the day was very entertaining – and it reminded us all how important it is to offer a helping hand at this Giving time of the year.
As the President of the Student Council, from the deepest of my heart, I would like to say thank you to all the SHB Cambridge students and teachers who donated and participated in the Shared Love Program. The whole process went smoothly. We are delighted we could contribute to the SHB OB and security staff and the people of Cianjur.
I am grateful to have been a part of this fantastic SHB Cambridge family, which excels academically and helps develop our empathy for others.
