74th Chinese Independence Day Celebration

On Wednesday, September 20, 2023, Harapan Bangsa Modernland Elementary School participated in the celebration of Chinese Independence Day at Raffles Hotel, Kuningan – South Jakarta.

Harapan Bangsa Elementary School always takes part in this annual activity, and about 32 students participated in the event. They performed as the opening act of the event, singing 3 songs. The first song, titled “Motherland”, was preceded by performances from Josia, a 6th grader, and Garneta, a 5th grader, together with the choir of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. Next came the Indonesian national anthem, “Indonesia Raya” ,and then the Chinese national anthem, ” Yìyǒngjūn Jìnxíngqú”.

The children felt proud because they could sing in front of the guests of honor. There were the Chinese ambassador Mr. Lu Kang, the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Prabowo Subianto, the coordinating minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Airlangga Hartanto, and the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Mr. Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and his wife.

This activity could successfully happen because of the support from Mr. Luntungan Honoris, as Chairman of Harapan Bangsa Indonesia Education Foundation and his wife, Mrs. Indra T Honoris, as well as the support of parents who gave permission for their sons/daughters to participate in the 74th Chinese Independence Day Commemoration event.

After our students finished performing, suddenly Mr. Prabowo Subianto’s personal bodyguards approached Josia and Garneta and they were asked to meet Mr. Prabowo Subianto. In front of the officials, they were given emblems, which on the front read the name of Mr. Prabowo Subianto and on the back a picture of the Garuda Bird.

Not only did this bring pride to Josia and Garneta, but the school also felt proud. All students who performed also received Indonesian and Chinese flag pins.

It was a great experience for our students, and after the event they also took part in a dinner together. The children seemed to really enjoy the food that was served.
