The trip to Dieng was one of the most fascinating and challenging experiences I've ever had. As someone who typically stays indoors, embarking on a trip that took me 10 hours away from my usual surroundings was quite unexpected. Despite the unfamiliarity and the notably chilly weather that resulted in more falls than usual, I thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.
Dieng offered me valuable insights into the lives of the local people. The perpetual cold in the area, owing to its high elevation above sea level, contributed to a unique perspective. Exploring landmarks like Candi Arjuna, easily accessible to the locals, provided a glimpse into a lifestyle where visitors frequent their homes to witness these landmarks—an experience quite distinct from my own surroundings, where landmarks are scarce, and visitors are rare.
Living in Dieng brought back memories of my time in my Grandfather's Villa in Megamendung—the cold air, the lush green surroundings, and the small houses evoked a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of enjoying warm meals in chilly weather.
Dieng also imparted practical lessons for making better decisions, including choosing the right shoes for muddy mountains in wet weather, always carrying an umbrella, and ensuring not to waste others' time.
Upon leaving Dieng, I found myself attached to the people we had met, and there was a slight pang of sadness knowing we had to depart. However, if the opportunity arises again, I am uncertain about when we might return, but if possible, I would gladly revisit this unique and memorable place.
