Every August 17th, Indonesia bursts into a vibrant celebration of its Independence Day, known locally as “Hari Kemerdekaan.” 19 August 2024, our school, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa, celebrated Independence Day by doing a flag ceremony and bazaar. When we arrived at school, we gathered at the lobby to walk to SHB 1 to do the flag ceremony. During the flag ceremony, we sang the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, while the raisers raised the flag. After the flag ceremony, free drinks were provided, and we went back to SHB 3 to play some games. Junior high school and senior high school were separated; junior high school played sack racing, known as “Balap Karung”, passing the balloon and tug of war. And senior high school students played tug of war, sack race, sumpit sukro, benteng and water relay. The classes competed, and the students supported their classes so they could win and get the prize. Grade 9B won tug of war and sack racing, and 8B won pass the balloon.
The social students opened bazaars, selling food and drinks at reasonable prices. So, while the students were enjoying the games, they could buy food and drinks to replenish their energy.
In the end, the students enjoyed the Independence Day celebration and had a lot of fun. The social students made a lot of profit, and 20% will be donated to charity. I want to thank the student council for managing the event well and the students who already participated in the games and supporting their classes
