The morning started early as I woke up to the sound of my alarm. After shaking off the sleepiness, I headed straight to the shower. The refreshing water woke me up fully, and I quickly got dressed in my best outfit for the celebration. Today was special — it was Chinese New Year, a time for family, joy, and new beginnings.
My parents and I made our way to my cousin’s house. As soon as we arrived, I was greeted by the warm and lively atmosphere. The delicious aroma of home-cooked dishes filled the air. The dining table was packed with traditional treats like dumplings, spring rolls, and sweet glutinous rice cakes. We sat down together, sharing laughter and stories while enjoying the festive meal.
After eating, my relatives began handing out red envelopes filled with money — “angpao”, a symbol of luck and prosperity. I felt both excited and grateful, thanking each family member politely. Conversations flowed naturally, with topics ranging from school and hobbies to plans.
Then came the fun part: taking lots of photos. We posed in different groups, capturing every joyful moment. The house was filled with laughter as everyone tried to get the perfect shot. Afterwards, we exchanged traditional greetings, “Kionghi! Kionghi!” wishing each other happiness, health, and success for the new year.
As the day came to an end, we headed home. I took another shower to refresh myself and prepared my school things for the next day. Though the holiday was filled with fun, school responsibilities were just around the corner.
To unwind, I played a few rounds of my favourite game, letting the excitement of the day linger a little longer. As I lay in bed, ready to sleep, I felt grateful for the warmth of family and the joy of celebration. It was truly a day to remember.
