Schools play a vital role not only in providing formal education but also in shaping children into well-behaved individuals. I strongly agree that schools should take responsibility for teaching children good behaviour in addition to academic knowledge. This is because children spend a significant portion of their day at school, and parents invest heavily in their education, expecting holistic development.
Firstly, schools have a unique opportunity to instil good behaviour because children spend considerable time in their care. Teachers often serve as role models, and their influence extends beyond academics. Through daily interactions, students observe and learn behaviours such as respect, responsibility, and kindness. For example, a survey conducted among students from one of Thailand's prestigious schools revealed that they developed good manners due to the values consistently emphasised by their teachers. This highlights how schools can positively shape students’ character.
Secondly, parents who pay for their children’s education often expect more than just academic success. Many parents believe that good manners are crucial for their children's personal and professional lives. For instance, in Thailand, international schools charge substantial tuition fees. Parents enrolling their children in these institutions anticipate that their education will include moral and behavioural development alongside academic excellence. This expectation underscores the importance of schools taking responsibility for character building.
In conclusion, schools have a significant role in teaching children good behaviour. The extensive time children spend at school and the financial investment made by parents justify the need for schools to ensure a holistic education, combining both academic and moral development. By doing so, schools contribute to producing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in all aspects of life.
