Fun Learning: Mathematics and Science

Mathematics and Science are often considered difficult subjects for some students. Therefore, the Fun Learning program was held to foster students’ interest, curiosity, and understanding through fun, creative, and interactive activities.

Mathematics and Science are often considered difficult subjects for some students. Therefore, the Fun Learning program was held to foster students’ interest, curiosity, and understanding through fun, creative, and interactive activities.

Today, Friday, August 22, 2025, Grade 5 students of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa participated in Fun Learning activities organized by SMP Harapan Bangsa, guided by the student council (OSIS). The activities took place in the Biology Laboratory, the basketball court, and the SMP Harapan Bangsa Gym.

The program was attended by all Grade 5 students, accompanied by Ms. Emy Sumardja as the Principal, and Grade 5 homeroom teachers: Ms. Bekti, Ms. Vero, and Mr. Mateus.

Objectives of the Program

  1. To increase students’ interest in Mathematics and Science.
  2. To make learning more engaging through games, experiments, and collaborative activities.
  3. To train students’ critical, logical, and scientific thinking skills.
  4. To develop teamwork and communication skills.

Activities

a. Fun Math Games

  • “Guess the Number” board game, designed with multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction questions.

b. Fun Science Activities (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)

  • Biology
    A simple experiment on the human respiratory system.
  • Chemistry
    • Elephant Toothpaste experiment by mixing liquid soap, H₂O₂, and KI, producing hot foam (note: the foam is harmful when in contact with skin).
    • Chromatography test by dipping paper into water to separate colors from a pencil-drawn line.
  • Physics
    • Rocket speed test.
    • Making a mattress balance scale.
    • Making slime.

Conclusion

Overall, today’s Fun Learning program was successful, enjoyable, and meaningful. Students were enthusiastic in joining each activity, learning became more interactive, and their understanding of Mathematics and Science improved through hands-on practice. Teamwork among students also grew stronger under the guidance of the OSIS mentors.

This Fun Learning activity has proven to make students more active, creative, and better at understanding concepts in a fun way. It is highly recommended to be held regularly as part of the school’s program.
