Students from SHB1 primary school, which only includes grades 5 and 6, went to SHB3 to undertake a fun learning activity. This activity was done separately between grades 5 and 6. Grade 5 fun learning took place on the 22nd of August, while grade 6 fun learning took place on the 29th of August. The following are what activities they did in the fun learning.
Grade 5 had four learning activities: math, chemistry, physics, and biology. In the math learning activity, they played a game called Snake Ladder or Ular Tangga in Indonesian. In this game, some questions contain multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. Next, they had a chemistry learning activity. This activity includes three different booths. Each of them had other activities. The first one is making slime; the second is chromatography (a laboratory technique for separating a mixture into its components). Third, there is an activity called elephant toothpaste (this activity is basically just a chemical reaction example; due to certain chemical substances, a chemical reaction occurs, showing signs of chemical changes). There are only two activities for the physics learning activity: making a rocket and a balance module, and then learning from them. For the first activity, whichever team gets their rocket to fly the furthest wins a prize. For the second learning activity, whichever team finishes the module first will get a prize, just like in the first activity. The teams are divided into 2. For Biology, they had only one activity: making a lung module. This activity requires the students to colour, cut, and glue. This activity needs the student to think creatively to make a good lung module. The module created by the students may be taken home. The module is made out of balloons, paper, and tape. Whichever team is the fastest in completing the module will be awarded a prize. The teams are divided into 2.
Grade 6 had three fun learning activities: Geography, Economy, and History. Each of the fun learning activities is given a booth. For geography, they had four activities: making a volcano, making lava, making rainbow rain, and a game where they had to guess where the tradition is from. For the volcano activity, they used clay and bottles; for the lava activity, they used baking powder and vinegar and mixed them together. They used oil, water and food colouring for the rainbow rain activity. They first inserted three drops of food colouring into the oil, then inserted water, which mixed with the colouring. For the last activity they did, the game would work like they would have to pick a card, and the card would say a tradition from Indonesia. For example, what area of Indonesia is Wayang Kulit from? Then, they would have to stick a sticker on the place where it is from. For the Economy, they played Monopoly. The students were divided into three groups. One group contained four people. This booth also teaches the students about buying and selling. The main focus is that they must know how much they’re paying and what a particular object is worth. For history, they played Snakes and Ladders, a game that grade 5 played. However, the Snake Ladder game played by grade 6 differs from that played by grade 5. For the grade 6 monopoly game, there were a few obstacles that the players faced. For example, if the player reaches a box colored red, they would have to answer a question, and if they get it right, they earn a point. If the player couldn’t get the point, they can continue the game.
In conclusion, the main focus of this fun learning activity for grades 5 and 6 is to learn to do things independently, become more independent, and overcome obstacles without needing the help of others.
