From August 28 to 30, 2024, our preschool hosted an exciting Table Manners event, where children from various classes learnt the art of dining with grace and good manners. This event was designed to teach young students how to eat politely and properly, making mealtime both enjoyable and respectful.
Day 1: August 28, 2024
The Kindergarten B – 1, Playgroup 1A, and Kindergarten A – 1 classes all took part on the first day. As the young ones gathered to embark on their table manners adventure, there was an obvious sense of excitement. Teachers started by explaining “My Plate,” a colorful guide that helped the children understand balanced meals and portion sizes. After this, the children eagerly washed their hands, learning the importance of cleanliness before eating.
Next, the children gathered around the table to say a simple prayer, fostering a sense of gratitude and mindfulness. Then came the highlight: using a spoon and fork! The children practiced holding and using their utensils correctly, with their teachers guiding them, focusing on posture and polite behavior. The day ended with the children enthusiastically cleaning their utensils and tidying up their dining space, learning responsibility in the process.
Day 2: August 29, 2024
On the second day, classes Kindergarten A – 2, Kindergarten A – 3, and Playgroup 1B took the spotlight. The format was similar, but the energy and enthusiasm were just as high. The children were eager to demonstrate their abilities, carefully washing their hands and praying before diving into their meal. This day's focus was on improving their utensil skills, ensuring that each child could use a spoon and fork with ease and confidence. The teachers provided gentle guidance, and the children responded with great effort, making significant progress.
Day 3: August 30, 2024
The final day featured classes Kiddy Club 1A, Kiddy Club 1B, and Kindergarten B – 2. These students had been eagerly anticipating their turn, and they didn’t disappoint! The session began with the now-familiar routine of learning about “My Plate,” hand washing, and saying prayers. But it was during the meal that the children truly shone. Their confidence in using utensils had grown remarkably, and their behavior at the table reflected the values of respect, patience, and responsibility. The event concluded with each child cleaning up their area, leaving the dining space spotless.
Achieving Table Manners Goals
Throughout these three days, the children not only learnt how to eat with a spoon and fork correctly but also embraced the values of good manners and respect at the table. The event was a huge success, with the children showing significant improvements in their dining etiquette and overall behavior. This hands-on experience was more than just a lesson; it was a joyful celebration of learning, responsibility, and togetherness. Parents and teachers alike were proud to see the children grow into polite, mindful, and well-mannered individuals.
