On Friday, September 26th, twelve enthusiastic students from Grades 5 and 6 at Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Cambridge Primary proudly represented our school at the Spelling Bee hosted by Sekolah Kristen Kanaan Tangerang.
With only a week to prepare, the atmosphere was filled with both nerves and excitement. The competition kicked off with a written test of 20 challenging words. Many contestants scored a perfect 20/20, forcing an intense tiebreaker round to determine the finalists.
In the grand final, we were thrilled to have two of our students among the top five contenders. This round was spoken, with each finalist tackling a list of ten words under a strict time limit. Every second counted—and every letter mattered!
One tiny slip in spelling proved costly, pushing Calliope Rei Scarlett (6A) to a respectable 4th place. Meanwhile, Natasha Talita Fredella (5A) shone brilliantly, spelling every word flawlessly. However, in a nail-biting finish, she crossed the line just ten seconds behind the winner, earning a well-deserved 2nd place! Congratulations, Natasha!
Our students showed wonderful sportsmanship, graciously accepting the results and recognizing that in every competition there are both victories and valuable lessons. We couldn’t be prouder of their determination, courage, and school spirit.
Now, with renewed confidence, they eagerly look ahead to the upcoming English 1 Spelling Bee in November!
