Museum Visit

To provide students with the opportunity to learn about and understand history, culture, and science, the Grade 5 and Grade 6 students of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa visited several museums on May 29, 2026. The museums we visited were the Jakarta History Museum, the Wayang Museum, and the Candra Naya Museum. Upon arrival, we were accompanied by a tour leader.

The Jakarta History Museum is located in Kota Tua (Old Town). The building was originally the Batavia City Hall, constructed in 1707 during the Dutch colonial era as the administrative center of the VOC. Its architecture reflects the classical Dutch style, and it once had underground prison cells. After Indonesia gained independence, the building was transformed into a museum.

The Wayang Museum is also located in the Kota Tua area. The building was originally a Dutch church. When Japan occupied Indonesia in 1942, the church was closed and used as a warehouse. In 1975, the building was renovated and officially opened as the Wayang Museum on August 13, 1975. The museum houses collections of traditional puppets from across Indonesia, including wayang kulit, wayang golek, and wayang klitik, as well as puppets from other countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia.

The Candra Naya Museum is located in the Glodok area of West Jakarta. It is a Chinese-Indonesian heritage museum. Originally, the building was the residence of Khow Tjoan Sioe, one of the wealthiest Chinese captains in Batavia during the Dutch colonial period, built in the late 1800s. The house features a unique blend of Chinese, European, and Javanese architectural styles, complete with gardens, ponds, and teak wood carvings. The museum displays collections related to Chinese-Indonesian history, old photographs, cultural artifacts, and stories of cultural assimilation.

The museum visit concluded at the Candra Naya Museum, where we enjoyed lunch together. Afterwards, we returned to our buses according to our assigned groups. The students looked happy and enjoyed the experience of learning while also having fun during this educational trip to the museum
