Virtual Visit to the Jakarta Planetarium

On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the 7th grade students of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill held a virtual visit to the Jakarta planetarium. This visit aims to introduce the science of astronomy to students and also provide the experience of seeing firsthand the process of observing celestial bodies using a telescope at the planetarium. This visit is also related to topics that students will get in Physics lessons in semester 1 which are related to the earth and other celestial bodies. During this visit, the planetarium gave a presentation about our solar system and also showed images from solar observations using telescopes and SOHO satellites.

The event began at 1:00 P.M. with an opening speech by Ms. Sisilia Juni Arianti as the principal of Junior High Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill. It was followed by an opening speech from Mr. Didin from the Jakarta Planetarium. Then, it was continued by a presentation about the solar system by Rony Syamara and direct observation of the sun through a telescope guided by Nadia. The students were also shown a live image of the sun taken by the SOHO satellite which was specifically devoted to observing the sun. This event lasted for about 1,5 hours. Unfortunately, at the end of the event the students could not discuss further because they had to return to their respective classes to take part in extracurricular activities. However, the students were all happy for taking part of the event.
