Another intense week arrives in Sekolah Harapan Bangsa. Why is it intense? Well, what could be more intense than Exam Days? The days when students are expected to study day and night, and achieve good scores for this academic mid-semester. That’s right: from Thursday, February 19 to Thursday, February 26, junior high school students will take their second mid-semester exams. These exams can be stressful; however, they can help students become more disciplined, more focused, and better at managing their time when studying.
Before arriving at school, students are expected to wear a proper school uniform, have their nails trimmed, and arrive on time. If they fail to do so, they will face a minor punishment. Those who fail to follow school rules are punished by being made to wait outside for 10 minutes at the junction while the exams continue, and unfortunately, they will not receive additional time added to their exams. That’s why students need to follow school rules during exams. For the exams, students are also required to have their passing ad exam cards with them. If they do not have it with them, they are asked to take a temporary one from the principal’s office. And, yes, no matter how long it takes to get a temporary card, no additional time will be added for the student’s exam. These rules are strict; however, students need to realise the importance of these exams and follow them.
Although exams are filled with anxiety and many other feelings, a well-prepared student is more likely to approach them with ease. That’s why, during recess, a lot of students come to the library and study. Proper revision strategies, sufficient rest, a balanced diet, and, most importantly, a positive mindset are the key to optimal exam performance. Exams aren’t always about getting good grades; rather, they're about maintaining discipline and having the ability to manage time, rest, and studies.
