On the 2nd April 2019, grade 11 Social class visited the National Museum, Central Jakarta. This activity was expected to let them see what life was like back then in the pre-historic times. The ticket cost only five thousand Rupiah.
So why did it have to be Museum Nasional? Almost all the pre-historic remains learned in the lessons are in the museum. This museum is even famous for having the most collection in Indonesia. The collection itself includes Hindu-Buddha remains like statues and relics from all over the country, as well as pre-historic, archaeological, ethnographic and historic collections like textile, traditional house miniatures, pre-historic objects, coins, tin, copper and gold. Collections from China, Myanmar, Vietnam and Japan can also be seen here.
What else is in the museum? On the first floor are artifacts and information on pre-historic humans’ life: what they looked like, their skeletons and what their lives are like.
The second floor of the museum is science and technology themed. There are scripts in many languages, astronomy, navigation, architecture, communication, transportation related collections. On the third floor are kept daily utensils, jewelry, religious objects , clothes and even a barrow to lift the king. The fourth floor keeps gold collection and valuable ceramics. Jewelry, money, ceremonial objects made of gold are also kept in here. Thus, the security of this last floor is high. Taking pictures here is prohibited. Ceramics from all over the world and those found in the sea can also be seen here in the museum.
The students are expected to learn the pre-historic times not only from textbooks, but also from close observations.
