SHB celebrated Teachers Day on Wednesday 25 November 2021 in order to remind teachers and to appreciate teachers who never stop to shape the future generation, from chalk generation, board marker to now online teaching generation. The teachers are not stopping to find solutions during this pandemic COVID-19 and still holding on to the principle that students have full right and independent learning to have better preparation in facing the future. Moreover, teachers these days become stronger, challenging many hard conditions to guide the students as role models.
Ms. Melany K. Gigir, S. Pd., M.S. as the Senior High School Principal in her opening speech stated “Move with heart, restore education. Even though we are still staying at home and doing home learning but we have to make sure that the teachers have proper methodology to teach and be a proper guidance for the future generations. Moreover, teachers and students are expected to always be patient and calm in carrying out teaching and learning during this pandemic.”. This statement is an encouragement for all school elements, who are responsible for the young generation to face future challenges.
The student council from Junior and Senior High collaborated with the teachers holding some online activities to commemorate teachers' day, which displayed that all education elements such as teachers and students can still work together in creating an online school environment that is conducive to learning. One of the activities was students making videos of student performances and testimony videos. Moreover, we had a teacher performance presented by Ms. Yanti and Ms. Yeni which was surprisingly awesome. We also played some online games and the student council had an initiative to nominate teachers based on punctuality, nice personality and rate of homework and assignments.
This activity lasted for more than 2 hours, from 9 to 11 A.M. The excitement increased when the teachers also took quizzes given by the student council. The teacher's knowledge was also being tested here. Furthermore, not only teachers participated in this activity but also the students as well. Both students and teachers competed with each other to be the first rank. The engagement was intense and created an even closer relationship.
Of course, everybody hopes the pandemic of COVID-19 will end soon and everything will go back to normal and we can spend time together at school face to face without a screen barrier holding us back to express ourselves. Let’s hope our next national teachers’ day will be celebrated at school.
