Online school or online learning is a method of learning where all school activities such as teaching and school events are done through the internet or virtually. in order to minimize the spread of the covid 19 virus, It has been around 2 years since the start of the transition from offline learning to online learning. As a student myself there are a few pros and cons of online learning that I notice throughout my time learning virtually.
For me, the pros of learning virtually are that I am able to search through the internet for information which makes it easier to find the information that I need to finish a school task and it is more comfortable learning in my own home compared to learning at school since I can be free to learn wherever I want at home, another benefit of online school is since it is done virtually through a device such as a phone or a laptop both the teacher and the student will be forced to learn more about new websites, apps and technologies that help in the process of teaching and learning, since nowadays technology is advancing in a rapid rate this new knowledge of apps technologies and websites can be beneficial for the student in the future where they need to compete against many other competitors, having a higher knowledge in technology will definitely help the student to obtain their dream jobs or career.
But there are also a few cons or problems with online learning that I notice, I think the biggest problem with online learning is the lack of physical social interaction and fun activities or events, usually, in an online school, we can play together with friends, talk to friends and teachers, and interact with one another this interaction with friends and teachers can motivate the student to study at school and make studying less boring of course we can still interact virtually with friends and teacher but for me, it feels different between meeting at school and meeting virtually since when you meet virtually there are limited interaction that you can do with your friends and teacher and all you see is a video on the screen of your device which in my opinion feels different than actually meeting and interacting with them physically. another problem is the lack of fun activities and events, usually, when we are learning at school offline there are a lot of activities or events to look forward to where we can make new memories and experience together but, since online learning is done virtually the event and activities is less fun since the event and activities are usually done virtually, there is not much that we can do. This lack of physical social interaction and fun activities can lead to a decrease in the motivation to learn in students. Another problem that I notice when learning virtually is since online learning is done through a device such as a phone or a laptop it gives a lot of burden for both the student and teachers eyes especially if the online learning is done for a long period of time, there can also be problems with the students or teachers internet and device that can cause problems with the learning process, and online learning can also cause problems in concentrating since we are using the internet while learning and the lack of teacher supervision, it is easy to be distracted and lose focus on the lesson.
So, in conclusion, I think that online learning may be a temporary solution to the difficulties of learning in this pandemic but, even though there are benefits of online learning in the long run I think it will not be an effective way to learn since the difficulties of online learning such as unstable connection and device problems and the lack of physical social interaction and fun activities or event will make it harder for students to learn and decrease students motivation and desire to learn.
