This year, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa holds an internship program for their 11th grade students. The program involves students working at a company for two weeks so they can gain work experience. They get to either choose their workplace by themselves or get the school to help them find one, with some students even ending up having their internship at school. At the end of the program, students are required to do a presentation on their experience as an intern. This presentation includes an overview of the company they chose, what position they had within the company, and what they learned from interning for two weeks.
Because of the pandemic, most of the students are forced to do their internship online. Nonetheless, the internship program went along smoothly. The students gained many experiences throughout their various internships. For example, one student had the chance to work in a marketing department, while another interned in a publication department.
Angellyn, an 11th grader, shared her thoughts on the internship. She stated, “The internship has been a wonderful experience over the past few weeks. The students gain an opportunity to learn new things outside of the standard school curriculum. Additionally, this internship program has allowed us students to relax a bit and complete our unfinished school work without the hassle of new assignments from our teachers.”
Grace, another 11th grader who participated in the program, stated, “The internship program allows me to be creative and think critically. Now that I have learned how to deal with real-life issues, I am very confident I will be able to succeed in real-life jobs. I also had a lot of fun with my team. We talked and shared our opinions about the program and showed each other how to do various things.”
To sum it up, the internship program has been helpful to students. The 11th graders get to experience what it’s like to be working in a real working environment. Even though they had hindrances due to the pandemic, they went through the program smoothly without major issues. In the end, the students found the program to overall be beneficial, and they were glad to have had the opportunity to go through it.
