The fourth of April is the day of the second mock exams taken by students from the classes CS4 to JC2. This is an extremely important exams to all the students, as it each exam holds 50% of a student’s report card grade, these are also our last exams before the official Cambridge examinations on May. Something new about these exams are that they are the first offline exams held by SHB for the past two years. The decision was made for the students, to familiarize themselves with the environment that would be similar to the real Cambridge exams.
As a JC2 person myself, the first few days of mock exams felt quite nerve wreaking and tiring. It has been a while since I went to school on consecutive days, it started to be extremely draining for me. The ambiance of the exam was also very serious compared to online exams.
What made the biggest difference for some of the subjects were that we aren’t able to type or write out answers on our laptops or tablets anymore, but had to write everything down on paper, the traditional method. I felt the biggest difference when I took my first exam, English writing. As I was used to typing essays, I noticed that compared to two years ago, I was not as familiar with paper writing for English. I had lost my ability on writing and got used to the typing world where I could edit anything in a simple click.
Nonetheless, this experience of an exam was extremely satisfying. The moments I was able to have with my classmates’ minutes before the exam discussing last minute topics. I believe that with this opportunity, we as students would slowly become more familiar to the settings of a classroom and not a desk in our bedrooms.
