On August 17th, 2023, Indonesia marked its 78th Independence Day. Our school, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Cambridge, had a holiday honouring Indonesia’s Independence Day. The celebration took place on August 18th, and it was delightful.
On the morning of August 18th, students from primary 4-6, SHB 3, and Cambridge students had a flag-raising ceremony. It was led by SHB 3 students for the flag raising and the primary students for the choir. The flag-raising ceremony went well, and it lasted one hour. However, the weather was too hot, and some students had to rest inside.
After the flag-raising ceremony, we had recess together. At recess, the student council prepared food and drinks for students to buy. They sold Indomie with egg and ice cream. They also gave away “Teh Botol” and Fruit Tea for free since Sosro sponsors it. Then afterwards, we played some games, including the “Benteng” game, Cup Pong, Triathlon, and water game.
The first game we played was the “Benteng,” the main objective was to attack, take over the opponent’s pole, and protect your pole, too. Next, we played drink pong; in this game, we provide nasty drinks, and one team is supposed to throw the ball into the other team’s cup for them to drink and win. Then we played a triathlon where three games were combined, including the spoon marble race, walking with tied up legs race, and the “Bakiak” race; whoever finishes the race first wins. Lastly, we played a water game; the team’s first player must get a bucket full of water and pass it to the back by pouring it over their heads; the team with the most water in the bucket at the end wins.
In the end, lunch was provided by the school. We all had a good time. The event was super fire, fun, and memorable.
