Returning to school after the winter holidays brings a mix of emotions and a fresh start. I admit I wasn’t prepared for this sudden start as my mind was still in “holiday mode,” but regardless, I was still anticipating what this semester would bring me (hopefully, good days filled with love and joy).
Reconnecting with Friends
I had mixed feelings about seeing my friends again—maybe it’s because I’m an anxious person at heart. But all my worries quickly washed away when I got to embrace the joy of reuniting with friends, sharing holiday stories, and finding comfort in familiar faces.
Setting a Positive Vibe
I wanted to start my new semester on a positive note, so I began by reflecting on my personal and academic goals to foster a positive mindset for the semester. The teachers have introduced the new topics we’ll be approaching, setting the tone for the weeks ahead and motivating us for the upcoming events this month.
Adapting to Routine
To help myself ease back into school routines gradually, I start by focusing on time management, organization, and balancing academic and personal life. Starting over with a completely fresh environment helps a lot too! I do this by cleaning my desk and locker because I may have forgotten to clean them during the holidays—oops! But doing this made me feel much more relaxed and excited to tackle the school year (and possibly make another mess in my locker/desk). I might also suggest clearing your email inbox to save storage space!!
Coping Strategies
Most students still struggle with the “post-holiday blues,” which can disrupt their minds in class. We need to start encouraging students to engage in enjoyable activities and focus on the positive aspects of the school experience, like seeing beloved friends and making new memories because time never stops, and we may never get
this time back. I can’t wait to look back on my teenage years when I’m grown.
Conclusion
Approach the first day back with positivity, reconnection, and achievable goals. Each day offers opportunities for growth, learning, and creating lasting memories in the new semester.
