On January 30, 2024, students of SMP Harapan Bangsa embarked on an unforgettable educational journey through a vibrant edutrip. With the main objective of broadening their understanding of culture and history, both students and teachers participated in a journey that combined learning with enjoyable activities.
The edutrip began in the early morning, with 101 students, 11 teachers, 1 principal, and 1 medical staff member gathering at SMP Harapan Bangsa at 5:30 a.m. Their first destination was Gambir Station, where they awaited the train that would take them to Yogyakarta. While at the station, students not only waited but also utilized their time to find snacks and explore the surroundings, enriching their experiences during the journey.
The train journey from Gambir to Yogyakarta lasted approximately six hours, during which the students enjoyed various entertaining activities inside the executive carriages. Upon arriving in Yogyakarta at 3:30 p.m., they were greeted by three buses ready to take them to the next destination.
After checking in at the Grand Kangen Hotel on Urip Sumoharjo Street, the students quickly changed clothes and headed to Heha Forest Yogyakarta for dinner. The evening was filled with joy and laughter, providing an opportunity for students to socialize outside the school environment.
The second day of the edutrip was filled with activities that enriched students' knowledge of culture and history. They visited the Yogyakarta Palace, a historical site that serves as the center of Javanese cultural activities. Furthermore, the journey continued to the Seno Budoyo Museum, where students were introduced to tools and equipment used by people in ancient times, including keris (traditional dagger) and other historical artifacts.
The students also visited Prambanan Temple, a historical landmark that continues to captivate many people to this day. There, they not only admired the beauty of the temple but also captured it through group photos, enriching their experience in understanding Indonesia's cultural heritage.
One of the most memorable moments was when the students were invited to participate in batik-making, playing gamelan, and making wayang (traditional puppet) in Tembi Village, Bantul, Yogyakarta. These activities honed students' creativity and provided deeper insights into Javanese art and culture.
The last day of the edutrip included a visit to the Affandi Museum, where students could witness firsthand the works of Indonesia's famous painters. Through explanations from the museum team, they gained a deeper understanding of Indonesian art.
Despite the tiring journey, the overall experience of this edutrip was considered highly valuable for the students of SMP Harapan Bangsa. With favorable weather, students were able to enjoy every moment and gain unforgettable learning experiences. This edutrip provided them with the opportunity to better understand and appreciate Indonesia's rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as fostered camaraderie among students and teachers.
