The Traditional Mid-Autumn Festival was celebrated by Sekolah Harapan Bangsa, Junior and Senior High School Modernhill, on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 10:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event took place in the school basketball court and hall, creating a lively atmosphere filled with togetherness. Through this celebration, students were invited to learn about and appreciate one of the most meaningful Chinese cultural traditions while strengthening the bonds among members of the school community in a warm and joyful setting.
The event began with an opening ceremony in the court. Following the opening ceremony, each junior high school class took turns performing Tai Chi. The students, dressed in PE uniforms, performed in unison, demonstrating strong class cohesion and spirit. Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art, not only strengthens the body but also embodies the Chinese cultural philosophy of “harmony between man and nature,” complementing the Mid-Autumn Festival theme of family reunion.
All Mandarin teachers acted as judges, giving each class a comprehensive score based on creativity, integrity, and expression. This fair and impartial judging process not only recognized students’ efforts but also provided valuable experience for future activities.
High School Drama Performance
The event then moved to the school auditorium, where the dance club presented a captivating Long-Sleeved Dance performance for the entire faculty and students. Dressed in traditional costumes, the dancers gracefully danced to melodious classical music, their flowing sleeves showcasing the beauty of traditional Chinese culture and creating a rich, festive atmosphere for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Next, each high school class presented a meticulously prepared Mid-Autumn Festival
themed drama. Each class wrote, directed, and performed their own drama, interpreting traditional Mid-Autumn Festival stories such as Chang’e Flying to the Moon and Wu Gang Cutting Down the Cassia Tree, as well as incorporating original scripts into modern life. These performances not only inherited traditional culture but also showcased the young people’s creativity and acting talents.
Mooncake Distribution
At the end of the event, each homeroom teacher carefully distributed mooncakes to each student, allowing them to experience the warmth and atmosphere of a Mid-Autumn Festival reunion at school. The students held mooncakes in their hands, their faces filled with happy smiles.
This two-and-a-half-hour event featured a variety of activities and rich content. It not only provided students with a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of the festival, but also strengthened their overall teamwork skills and abilities through various art forms such as dance, Tai Chi, and drama. The success of this event was due to the collaborative efforts of all teachers and students, particularly the meticulous organization of each homeroom teacher and Mandarin teacher, as well as the active participation of students, which created a harmonious and warm campus atmosphere.
