August 17 is a historical day for all Indonesians. Besides being commemorated as an Independence Day, that date is also often enlivened with various competitions and events. Unlike the previous independence celebrations, this year, middle and high school students of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill held an online Independence Day celebration due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19. This activity began with a flag ceremony with ceremonial officers were from the representatives of the Student Council of the Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Junior High School and High School class of 2021-2022.
The main activity of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day on Wednesday, 18 August 2021, was marked by a ceremony commemorating the seconds of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence. During the ceremony, the hopeful nation's school students are expected to remain solemn in carrying out the flag ceremony virtually. On this occasion, all participants in the ceremony, namely students and all of the school's teachers and staff, wore traditional clothes.
Other than the flag ceremony, all students of Harapan Bangsa School from grade 7 to grade 12 participated in several competitions such as poster contest, solo singing, short stories, poetry, vocal group, photography, video, design of clothes or bags and TikTok. For this event, students have previously sent their results and they were all presented during the class meeting. The purpose of this activity is to train teamwork with fellow classmates.
At the closing ceremony, the committee announced the winners of the class meeting. All activities went very smoothly and the participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the series of events from beginning to end. This can be seen from the preparation of the students a few days before the event started and after the event was over. With the completion of the entire series of events, it is hoped that the students as the nation's hope can instill and remember the noble values of the heroes for Indonesian independence.
