Squid Game Review

‘Squid Game’ is the name of a series on Netflix. This Korean drama tells us about a deadly challenge made up of old Korean children’s games. The challenge was created by an old man named Il-nam, who has a brain tumor. He has so many subordinates that have their own jobs. There is ranking between the subordinates. You can see the rankings on their masks. The masks are marked with either a circle, a triangle, or a square. And there is a special mask. Only one person uses that mask and he is called the ‘Front man’.

The main character in the series is Seong Gi-hun. He has a mother that works as a farmer who has diabetes. Seong Gi-hun has a daughter, but his daughter lives with her mother and her stepfather. At the beginning of the series we see that Seong Gi-hun forgets his daughter’s birthday, but luckily his mother reminds him. But still, he bets on a horse riding competition rather than saving money for his daughter. He has so much debt so he decided to bet on the horse racing competition but in the end he loses all of his money.

Then one day, a mysterious man meets Seong Gi-hun at a train station and offers to give him money if he wins a game named ‘ddakji’. It's a simple game where you have to flip the other player's origami paper by throwing and slamming your origami onto it. Over and over he tried but still Seong Gi-hun couldn't flip this mysterious guy's origami, until finally he flipped it only once and won some money. This mysterious guy then offered him the chance to play more simple childhood games and make a lot more money that can change his life. He just needs to win 6 games, and from that the story of Squid Game’ begins.

If you have not watched it yet, I would recommend it. But, the games are deadly and lots of people get hurt and killed. It is not for kids, so ask your parents first if you can watch this show.
