Healthy Adolescents Seminar

On Tuesday, 15 June 2021, a three-session Seminar Day of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill was done for Junior and Senior High School students. The purpose of this annual event is to increase and enhance the knowledge of the students. Teachers also took part as participants to the event.

Mrs. Melany Kusumawati Gigir, S.Pd., M.S. as the Head of School and Principal of Senior High School gave the opening speech, where she also reminded teachers and students to play an active role in the event. After the opening speech, the seminar was followed by the explanation from the three speakers which was divided into three sessions. The explanation was presented by Mrs. Rindra Prameswari Sampadha Putri S.Tr.Gz. who is a registered nutritionist in Denpasar, Bali, Mrs. Endah Retnaningrum, S.Si., M.Eng. who is an associate professor at Gadjah Mada University, and Mrs. Dr. Kumala Dewi, M.Sc.St. who is a lecturer at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.

In the first session, the seminar discussed healthy adolescents with balanced nutrition which was presented by Mrs. Rindra. She explained nutritional problems, factors that affect adolescent nutritional needs, nutritional status, balanced nutritional diet and a healthy ideal body weight. Then the second seminar was presented by Mrs. Endah who discussed the prospective of microbiology study and its related job career. She explained all aspects of microorganisms, types of microorganism, development of microbiology in the applied field, microbiology methods, and the characteristics of microorganisms. In the third session, Mrs. Kumala delivered a talk about plant physiology and an introduction to the Biology Study Program at Gadjah Mada University. She explained the life process of plants, as well as the habitat or environment of plants.

In addition to the presentations, the committee also held some games for the participants, as well as a question-and-answer session between participants and speakers. The event was closed with a virtual handover of the certificate by Mrs. Christina Waryanti as the Vice Principal of the Junior High School of Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill.

Overall, although the 2021 seminar activities were held virtually, it went smoothly and meaningfully. All students, teachers, and staff were cooperative and enthusiastic in participating in this event.
