Report on English Day at Sekolah Harapan Bangsa

Harapan Bangsa School celebrated English Day on March 16, 2023. The aim of the event was to promote the use of English language among students and to encourage them to improve their English language skills and learn its culture.

The event started with an opening prayer and speech. Ms. Juni, as Junior High school principal, gave a speech, highlighting the importance of English language in today’s world and encouraging the students to participate in the various activities planned for the day.

The first activity of the day was fashion show. Students from different classes represent English-speaking countries wearing its traditional/ local clothing. The models walked through the runway while the presenter was explaining the name of the cloth and when they were usually worn.

The next activity was an English Drama which was conducted by a group of students from grade 7. The drama raised an issue about young generation’s extreme attachment to smartphone that could lead to their demise. Two students (coming from future) tried to help humankind to stop their addiction by initiating a campaign that helps reduce their screen time and improve the quality of their lives. The performance was impressive and received a thunderous applause from the audience.  When the drama ended, several students from grade 9 and 10 sang songs that successfully put all students in a good mood.

The last activity was tongue twister competition. Two top performers from each class competed to articulate some difficult tongue twisters to place themselves in the top 3. The cheering of the crowd and the row elevate the tension making it even more challenging for participants to get through.

Overall, English Day was a success, and the students had a great time participating in the various activities. The event provided them with an opportunity to showcase their English language skills and to learn from each other. It was an excellent initiative by the school to promote English language among students and to encourage them to improve their language proficiency.
