On June 11th to 12th 2025, the students from the Sekolah Harapan Bangsa student council organized and held this year’s Buddy Program. This event was stretched into 2 days to ensure all activities weren’t to be done in a rush, as the students’ enjoyment was the student council’s top priority.
Within two days of this event, students from Junior and Senior High teamed up to play a total of 6 games. Games in which are focused on initiating teamwork within team mates. These games are namely; Water Volley, Pass the Powder, Ball & Straw, Blindfolded Obstacles, Cross the River and Capture the Flag. Many students were driven by the goal of hopefully winning first, second, or third place that offers them each a prize worth sharing among the team.
Sekolah Harapan Bangsa is known to have a family-like community. Where most students can easily build good bonds with others regardless of their differences, especially in age or grade. However, this isn’t the case for every student. Most students view the difference in grades to be a restricting and strong barrier, putting them at a halt to easily take the initiative to build new relations with other students. Thus, unfortunately indicating lack of confidence or social skills in students. Therefore, to address this issue the Buddy Program is built under the fundamental goal to build students’ confidence, social skills, strategic and logical thinking, as well as their emotional quotient. All together it goes under one of our school’s vision; character.
This event may seem like a simple cause and solution, however these said simple games are actually an effective way to solve a problem faced by many students at school. The social and logical skills that could be developed through this event definitely play a crucial role in every student’s upbringing, being equipped by these skills will help them glide through their future situations or endeavors with ease. Evidently, many students had fun and enjoyed themselves even though they were teamed up with people that they weren’t already initially close with. This just comes to show how difference in grades can be pushed aside and not become a barrier of friendship. It also shows the importance and effectiveness of a friendly, non-forceful approach in helping students push themselves outside of their comfort zone.
Within weeks upcoming the event, the student council from Senior and Junior High worked together along with teachers to prepare this event. During the days of the event, it was carried out by ensuring teacher and student PICs were present to all lend a helping hand. However, the most important aspect was the cooperation of all of the students joining this event overall. Afterall, this event is made for them.
With everything considered, this year’s Buddy Program was a success. There may be some bumps along the road be it from the process of preparation, or the even during the actual event itself. However, it served as a memorable experience for us all; the day where bonds were either made or strengthen.
