Prompt: Your English teacher wants you to write a story. Your story must begin with this sentence:
Oliver felt excited as he walked up the path to the house and knocked on the front door.

Story:

Oliver felt excited as he walked up the path to the house and knocked on the front door. After a moment, he slowly pushed the door open and stepped inside.

“Guys?” he called out, placing his school bag on the floor. There was no response. He walked through the house, checking each room, wondering where his parents and siblings were. The silence made him uneasy.

After searching every corner of the house, he finally gave up and sat down on the couch. “They forgot about my birthday…” he murmured softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

Suddenly, the front door burst open. “SURPRISE!” his family shouted as they rushed inside.

“No way we could forget your birthday!” his dad said with a smile.

Oliver jumped up and ran towards them, wrapping his arms tightly around his parents. “I thought you forgot about my birthday!” he cried, tears of relief streaming down his face.

“We would never forget,” his mum said warmly. “Now come on, let’s open your presents!”

The house quickly filled with laughter and joy as they celebrated Oliver’s birthday together for the rest of the evening.
