The school is an educational institution that plays a vital role in developing students' interests and talents, which are no less important than knowledge and character. SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill strives to enhance students' abilities through various activities, one of which involves the establishment of the Student Council. This council serves to foster students' skills in organization, responsibility, leadership, and problem-solving. The relay of leadership within the SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Student Council continues every year, aiming to nurture the upcoming generation of leaders.
At the outset of the new school year 2023 – 2024, the SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Student Council conducted recruitment for potential OSIS (Student Council) management and candidates for the new Student Council chairman, thus continuing the leadership of the previous administration.
A total of 26 students registered for the SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Student Council, comprising students from grades 7 and 8. Meanwhile, there were 3 candidates vying for the positions of chairman and vice chairman. Interviews were conducted on Thursday and Friday, July 27-28, 2023, for all candidates for student council management, as well as those running for the roles of chairman and deputy chairperson. The objective of these interviews was to explore the hidden potential within the students. These interview sessions took place in the library, overseen by the OSIS supervisor and three teachers in rotation. The results of the interviews revealed that 20 students were successful in their bid for the student council management positions, along with the 3 candidates selected for the roles of chairman and vice chairman.
The election for the chairman and vice chairman of the student council occurred on Monday, August 1, 2023, within the premises of the SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill hall. The proceedings commenced with a prayer and opening remarks by the Principal of SMP Harapan Bangsa Modernhill, Ms. Sisilia Juni Arianti. The event then proceeded with the presentation of the candidates' visions and missions, followed by a panel discussion aimed at allowing students to become better acquainted with the candidates. Subsequently, the students cast their votes directly. The voting process was similar to that of general elections conducted by the government, providing an indirect introduction and experiential learning opportunity about the electoral process for students at an early age.
The election process involved distributing ballots containing the names of the candidates for chairman and vice chairman of the student council. Voting booths were set up with nails for students to mark their choices, and the students then deposited their ballots into the ballot box and inked their fingers as evidence of having cast their votes. Following the election, the results indicated that Zatara and Sofia, listed as candidate number 2, were elected as student council chairpersons for the 2023-2024 term, securing 60% of the votes.
