On Tuesday, September 3 2019 Harapan Bangsa Modernhill School held a Character Building Seminar for grade 1-6 students. The Character building seminar is annual activity that we hold every year to give students an opportunity to learn about themselves and others. This year the seminar topic was about anti-bullying, but for this year the seminar is not only for the students, we also held a parents seminar at the junior high school building.
The location for the student’s seminar was in the hall of the primary building. We invited the speakers from Hope Community. Hope Community is a community of psychologists who have specialty in seminars and training. For the students seminar we invited Debby Anggraini, M. Psi., CGA., Psikolog, an educational psychologist experienced in various seminars and handling education problems.
In this seminar grade 1-4 students learnt about the definition of bullying, the differences between bullying, conflict, and rough playing. The speaker also shared the tips for handling bullying. For grade 5-6 students this seminar was to raise their awareness about online bullying and social bullying. The seminar was delivered using various methods such as games, simulations, and role play so it was easier for the students to understand the materials of the seminar.
The parent’s seminar was held at the Junior High building with Brother Bambang as the speaker. Brother Bambang is the head of Yayasan Pangudi Luhur and experienced in special needs students intervention. In this seminar Brother Bambang explained about the true definition of bullying, the cause of bullying, signs of the students who are being bullied, and how to help the kids to handle bullying. Parents also got the chance to ask questions and share their opinions in the question and answer session. Parents showed great interest during this session, a lot of them asked Botherr Bambang about the problems that they experienced with their children.
