The end-of-year school holiday is always a worth-waiting moment by both teachers and students to take a break from the daily routine of teaching and learning, and to enjoy the days by engaging in fun activities such as exercising, playing, and traveling or sightseeing to desired destinations. Lots of teachers and students also use the end-of-year school holiday to gather with family, have meals together, or simply enjoy relaxing time at home. This holiday moment is not just an opportunity to rest but also to evaluate and reflect on the learning achievements gained during the semester and prepare for the second semester in the new year. Now, with renewed enthusiasm, teachers and students return to school carrying hopes and determination to study harder and achieve better results.
Maintaining Health Amid the Threat of HMPV Virus
Returning to school in 2025 brings new challenges. One of them being the spread of the HMPV virus. Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a virus which causes respiratory tract infections. The transmission of the HMPV virus usually results in symptoms such as cough, cold, nasal congestion, and fever. The HMPV virus can affect anyone, but it is more common in infants, children under the age of 5, the elderly with chronic diseases, and individuals with weakened immune systems. HMPV infections generally occur in subtropical countries, and the number of cases increases during the winter season. The transmission of HMPV can occur through droplets, coughing, sneezing, direct contact with contaminated surfaces such as doorknobs, spoons/forks, or toys. To prevent the spread of the HMPV virus, we need to regularly wash our hands with soap, wear a mask if feeling unwell, avoid close contact with people showing signs of illness, and practice a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, maintaining a nutritious diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly are key to maintaining the body’s immunity. By adopting these healthy habits, the renewed spirit of learning this academic year can continue to be sustained without being disrupted by health issues.
