Ways Adults Can Influence How Younger People Behave
Recently, my class listened to a radio discussion about how adults can positively influence younger people. This discussion included several ideas that my classmates have been debating. The majority of my class concluded that two of the most effective methods are giving rules and setting an example.
The first method, giving rules, may seem effective, or at least it may have a positive impact on young people. While this is sometimes true, young people do not always follow rules, and some even develop a habit of breaking them for fun. Furthermore, imposing rules can sometimes encourage them to test boundaries, as they may feel tempted to break them.
On the other hand, setting an example may have a stronger influence on their behaviour. Research has shown that people often imitate those they admire. Although this method also has its limitations, as not all young people have someone they look up to, it can still be highly effective. In addition, observing responsible behaviour in daily life encourages younger people to adopt similar habits naturally.
In conclusion, although both strategies have their advantages and disadvantages, in my opinion, setting an example is a more effective way to influence young people. This is because many young people want to fit into society; therefore, they tend to behave like those around them. By setting a good example, adults can gradually influence how young people behave over time.
