Welcome back to SHB’s Open House. Before every guest arrives, teachers and students on duty have prepared all their interesting projects to display. We were excited to demonstrate each of our booths. The marketing team was ready to capture beautiful and spontaneous moments. There were at least 11 booths, which included biology, chemistry, physics, economics, English, Chinese, painting, primary, kindergarten, and more. What I partly didn’t expect was to meet my former teachers from both primary and kindergarten. The atmosphere was very lively that day, especially seeing a few children run around instead of spiritless teenagers. The tour guide who showed the visitors around the school eventually led them to the English booth. I was on duty at the English booth, so I showed them the items we had there: the books we use at school, some intermediate-level word puzzles, and Scrabble. During the gaps between groups of visitors being toured around, I got quite bored and started paying more attention to what other booths were doing, but everyone around seemed more entertained than I was. I had a few teachers accompanying me at the English booth, too, who kept me occupied with their amusing anecdotes and adult talk. I also interacted with the Chinese booth next to me because I assumed they were tired too. The painting booth that was in front of the English booth was doing a live painting that was very impressive, which I could’ve watched for a long time.
By the end of the day, it was finally lunchtime, and the school provided food for both the teachers and students. After a long, tiring day of presenting our school at its best, that lunch felt like the best meal we had. Looking back, I find it hard comparing this year’s open house with the others I have participated in, as each one had a different atmosphere, since the setting of the booths was different and the teachers who accompanied me were also different each time, but they are exceptional teachers who are all very inspiring and dedicated. Lastly, I can clearly see how much I have improved, especially in being more open through these experiences. Overall, I can say it was very enjoyable and meaningful, and we can learn a lot from every experience. See you all soon at the next open house.
