Video games should be age restricted. Nowadays, kids would use a laptop, search a game on the internet and find what game that interests them. On their way surfing through the internet, they may find games unsuitable for their age. Some people believe that video games should not be age-restricted since it would not affect the person at all, but others disagree. Research shows that video games can affect children’s behaviour.
Firstly, video games can release violent thoughts for kids as they give knowledge to them on how to fight, punch, shoot and kill people or animals, etc. Some violent video games show harsh graphics such as blood too. It can make the children become very aggressive because they think that what the characters do is acceptable to do by the children. It could also make children conduct rude behaviour towards adults. According to a study conducted by The Royal Society Publishing, adults who spend time playing violent video games exhibit higher levels of aggressive behaviour compared with those who do not.
Furthermore, video games should be restricted since it can increase fear among children. Horror genre video games are scary, and as time goes by, technology becomes more advanced, so video games are more graphic, looking as if it is real. Children under the age of 14, playing horror video games may end up having increased chances of anxiety conditions later in adulthood. This is because fear experienced by people will be stored in the amygdala, a part of the brain responsible for generating emotions.
Lastly, video games may cause children to feel hurt from online games. Children do not know which is a good and bad person when cruising through online games. Some people pretend to be their friends and ask for sensitive information, others just hurt children through the use of bad language. This can influence children younger than 10 (ten), because they would most likely be influenced negatively by these effects.
In conclusion, video games should utterly be age restricted, specifically for ages ranging from 3-18+. Without categorizing them, children would be exposed to many negative impacts due to exposure to unsuitable games for their ages which will be dangerous for their future lives. Therefore, parents should take note of what games are suitable and not suitable for their children in order for them to grow properly.
