“Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill Celebrates Independence Day through Kalimantan Traditions and Unity”

On Tuesday, 19 August 2025, Sekolah Harapan Bangsa Modernhill held its Independence Day celebration with great enthusiasm, even though the flag ceremony had to be postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions. The students began the celebration with a memorable photo session alongside their classmates and homeroom teachers. Adding a cultural touch, everyone wore traditional costumes from Kalimantan, highlighting this year’s slogan: “Muda, Merdeka, dan Cinta Budaya Tradisional Indonesia Borneo – Kalimantan.” The colorful attire and cheerful atmosphere created a vibrant start to the day’s activities.

After the photo session, the first traditional game from Kalimantan, known as Balogo, was introduced. This game, which resembles golf in its concept, quickly caught the students’ interest and excitement. The friendly competition allowed them not only to enjoy the game but also to connect with one of Indonesia’s traditional cultural practices. Following the game, the students enjoyed a meal together, reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and togetherness during this special celebration.

The event continued with another engaging activity called the water transport game, where students worked in teams to complete fun challenges. Laughter and joy filled the school grounds as the students actively participated, showing their energy and enthusiasm. Through these traditional games, the celebration emphasized the importance of cultural appreciation and unity. It was hoped that the students would carry forward the values of togetherness and pride in Indonesia’s cultural diversity. The celebration ended with the strong spirit of independence, echoing the call: “Merdeka!”
