In contrast to handwritten letters, which took time to arrive, communication is now reachable within our fingertips. Technology has evolved to make it practical for any form of communication to take place.

Technology Brings People Closer

According to common belief in society, technology in communication now brings people closer. This is mainly due to the fact that distance can no longer interfere with communication. Not only distance, but even differences in time zones do not affect it. As long as both parties are connected to the internet, communication can always take place. This simplification eases people’s effort and peace of mind, especially when the inability to communicate causes restlessness.

Technology Drives People Apart

In contrast, others believe that technology creates emotional distance. As less effort is required, it may decrease individuals’ need to make genuine effort to maintain emotional and deeper bonds.

Conclusion

Generally and objectively, technology exists to ease our efforts and initiate communication, regardless of the situation. While it has statistically been proven to offer more good than harm, I personally believe that technology brings us closer. The idea that it drives people apart is very circumstantial. This shows that emotional bonds, friendships, and relationships are heavily dependent on individuals’ personal desire to build and maintain them. Technology is merely present to support that goal and effort, not to dismantle it.
